It’s been while since I’ve flexed my writing muscle on this blog so let’s give it ago. UFC 279 is on tonight, Spetember 10th, 2022, with the main card starting at 10pm Eastern time. Lets go straight for the jugular and jump into the main event. It was supposed to be the legendary and notorious Nate Diaz vs. Khamzat Chimaev but Chimaev missed weight by a whopping 7 pounds. Check out the highlights below.
Since Chimaev missed weight he is being replaced by the ever popular, fan favorite “El Cucuy” Tony Ferguson. Ferguson is coming off a 4 fight losing streak, fresh off a vicious head kick knockout by lightweight contender Michael Chandler. Before the knockout Ferguson had a really good round 1 but he got caught. Check out the gruesome footage below.
He’s still the people champ, having had a 12 fight win streak and interim UFC belt at Lightweight. Ferguson is also the season 13 TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) winner at welterweight. He’ll be moving back up from Lightweight (155lbs) to Welterweight (170lbs). The other headliner Nate Diaz has only won 1 fight in the last 5 or 6 years. He did almost knockout the current Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards. He didn’t end up winning the fight but check out the epic comeback after losing the 5 rounds.
Nate Diaz is also The Ultimate Fighter Season 5 winner. Diaz is a veteran in the game at 37 years old, Ferguson is also at the tail end of his career at 38. UFC 279 is the last fight on Nate Diaz’s UFC contract, he may just go on to box Jake Paul.
Both fighters are durable cardio machines. It will be hard to knockout Nate, he’s only been stopped by cut in the Jorge Masvidal fight for the BMF (Baddest Motherfucker) title presented by the Rock. The other time was a knockout loss to Josh Thomson.
The Diaz brothers (MMA fighters, Nick and Nate Diaz) are known for cutting up easily having scar tissue above the eyebow. Check out the highlights below.
On the contrary, here is a Tony Ferguson video from the UFC, highlighting his 12 fight win streak.
